movie idea

since i didn't write three ideas i figure i'll write one good idea that i've been discussing with friends.
I want to film in a style that i am not used to so that i may experiment and challenge myself. i want to film an extremely non-linear progression and more extreme camera angles. The concept of my movie will be on how our emotions cause a disillusionment of reality. Colors will be used to emphasize the feeling of the viewer and even though it is non-linear in form, i am going to attempt to keep the viewer in the loop and understanding of the sequence of events. My film will have to be of a passionate event. a man comes home to see his wife with another man talking, because she never introduced this man to him and henever knew of his existence, a flood of images with possible misguided events cram the screen blocking any rational thought. Mixed images of ambiguous past and perhaps future events taunt the man into a rampage where he kills the suspected lover - only to find that it was the brother she never knew of coming to visit her.

  1. This sounds intense. It definitely sounds like a good idea. The main character is definitely going to come off crazy though. I think you could rationalize his actions more by having the wife embrace her brother or something that would be normal for a brother and sister but not necessarily for an acquaintance.

  2. Yeah, very intese. But I think you have a ton of opportunity to experiment with weirder camera and editing stuff. What if you included some photoshop animations? For some reason i want to see really quick instruction manual style drawings depicting his irrational thoughts. Also for some reason, I would like to see the "real time" of this movie shot like a 1940's film noir, with costuming and maybe changed to black and white in editing...and then I would like to see the flashes that depict his thoughts shot much crazier and more colorful and ambiguous.

  3. This is different approach from your other work. Have you considered whether or not you will use sound or dialogue? I think this can be well executed without dialogue.

  4. I'm thinking about ways you can change the hue of different objects by changing the overall color of the scene. Changing the overall lighting physically or via color correction will change the hues of every object in the frame. You could use that somehow to denote the change in opinions that the main character has throughout your film.

  5. Once again - Natalie is spot on. I totally imagined the same thing - the confrontation happening in very serious, very dramatic film noir style (which gives you a good opportunity to use some crazy angles to get those noir style modern lines going) then a jarring transition to a burst of colorful, crazy emotions.

  6. i like the concept you have here, but im wondering if this example you have given is the only device you will use to illustrate the point? Push it further, and see what you come up with. Is jealousy the easiest way to demonstrate this? Or can sadness, happiness, and even lust be other vehicles for a type of disillusionment?
